Wetsus support activities

The role of Wetsus in realizing facilities for this top region, and thereby supporting the sector, is in most cases limited to initiating and facilitating.The fact that a large number of parties cooperate
in Wetsus makes Wetsus a natural starting point for many initiatives. Main activities in this regard include:

• Setting up an incubator for spin-offs from Wetsus and universities and for other small water technology companies. The incubator, located in the direct vicinity of the Wetsus laboratories, is expected to open its doors in 2009
• Shortening the distance between companies and suppliers of pre-seed and seed capital:

• The ‘Wetsus seed capital desk’ (where a company is brought into contact with the most appropriate existing seed capital fund) is under development
• Entrepreneurs or inventors with a business idea can call in the help from Bison, a foundation in which Wetsus participates. Bison supplies coaching and pre-seed capital
• Close cooperation with local authorities in the realization of a water science park (‘water hub’) around the Wetsus-facilities. It is expected that the fi rst offi ces and labs can be realized in 2009
• Stimulating the creation of joint-ventures for the further development, scale-up and commercial implementation of new technology Incubator, to be opened in 2009 14 wetsus
• Maintaining and expanding the research infrastructure in and around Leeuwarden:
• Maintaining and expanding existing analytical and research laboratories and attracting new research activities to the area
• An application centre for bench scale testing, available for commercial companies, is under development in cooperation with van Hall Larenstein (BSc university)
