The emphasis in this theme is on the (exploration and) screening of water treatment concepts that are commercially available but have not yet been scientifi cally proven. The screening is executed in physical chemical and biological model systems which have practical relevance. Any proven effect of the preconventional water treatment concepts on the behavior of the model systems may result in new insights and (new) breakthrough technologies.
