Desah SneekWetsus is a participant in the DeSaH demonstration project in Sneek. DeSaH is a Dutch acronym for Decentralized Sanitation and Reuse. The project is being carried out in the Lemmerweg-Oost neighbourhood of Sneek. A new method for the collection of waste water has been installed in 32 rental accommodations. The black (toilet) water collected separately via a vacuum toilet has a very small volume since only a minimal flush is required. This black water is purified in the neighbourhood in a specially designed installation. The residues of the purification process are reused. The collected grey water (originated from shower, washing machine etc.) will also be treated. The effluent can be reused.
Within the Wetsus ‘decentralized water treatment’ theme, research is being carried out to find the optimal treatment concept for concentrated black water en grey water. The emphasis in this project is on the integration of various techniques to produce clean water as defined in the European Water Framework Directive.
