Wetsus business support
The main objective of Wetsus is to develop (pre)competitive know-how with respect to water treatment technology. It is crucial that this know-how is converted into successful, profitable innovations. In this respect, the proximity of test facilities, stimulation of start-ups and a stimulating climate for collaboration for the water sector are of great importance. This Wetsus support is available for the entire water sector, so not just for its own participants.
Furthermore, for the clustering of know-how it is important that the main research activities of Wetsus are surrounded by related activities. A certain concentrated critical mass of commercial and scientific activities in the field of water provides synergy in the shape of natural joint ventures, new creativity and facility sharing, for example. In addition, concentrating water activities in a single geographic area increases the attraction of the Netherlands as a place of business for foreign water companies.
European Water Hub Wetsus is located in Leeuwarden, the capital of the Dutch province Friesland. In Friesland there is a relatively high density of Dutch owned water companies and furthermore there is a high degree of organization in the sector. Together with the relevant commercial and governmental organizations, Wetsus is fulfi lling the ambition to create a European top region in the fi eld of water technology around Leeuwarden. This ‘Water hub’ initiative is supported by national policy from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, which has designated Leeuwarden as the national water technology focal point.
