European centre of excellence
for sustainable water technology

Europe

Wetsus is a trendsetting intermediary between worldwide operation companies and leading EU knowledge institutes, with an aim to stimulate knowledge generation and transfer in the field of sustainable water technology. The Wetsus program is the largest European collaboration program on water technology with over 100 participants who actively participate in generation of new breakthrough water technologies. European funded program are in integral part of the research program of Wetsus. Wetsus is currently coordinating 3 projects funded by the European Commission.

* Bioelectrochemical systems for metal recovery (BioElectroMET, 2012-2016)
* Bio-electrochemically-assisted recovery of valuable resources from urine (ValueFromUrine, 2012-2016)
* A new Wetsus EU-project has been approved (total project budget 1,5 M€). It is a so called
Interreg IVA project. Several SME’s from the Northern Netherlands and the German Ems
Dollart Region will cooperate in this project in 2 themes: heat recovery from sewers and
disinfection of hospital waste water. Wetsus is lead partner and mainly involved in the
hospital water part. Within this project, new innovative technologies from the Wetsus network
(AquaExplorer, Water Waves, Easy Measure, Bright Spark, Pharmafilter, Westra,
Pure Green and Westt) will be tested at the new demonstration site at the hospital of Sneek.

Wetsus also coordinated the Capmix project, a Future Emerging Technology project developing a new way to extract energy from salinity gradients (Capmix, 2010-2014).
