Jan Post defends thesis cum laude
On November 3, Wetsus PhD Jan Post received at Wageningen University the cum laude honour for the defense of his thesis “Blue Energy: electricity production from salinity gradients by reverse electrodialysis”. We congratulate Jan with this remarkable achievement!
PhD Defense Hans Vrouwenvelder in Leeuwarden
On October 30, the Kanselarij in Leeuwarden was the venue for the successful PhD defense of Hans Vrouwenvelder. After an international workshop on biofouling, the defense started at 14.30 hrs. TU Delft gave special permission for the defense of this Wetsus PhD at this unique location.
The workshop in the morning attracted an international group of over 100 people, to discuss the latest insights on biofouling. They listened to presentations by Jan Schippers, Mike Johns, Christian Picioreanu, Harry Ridgway and Hans-Curt Flemming.
Wetsus Water Week: 4 events
Victor Yangali-Quintanilla (Peru) has won the first Wetsus Rabobank Business Challenge (September 28-October 2)
His business plan for H2O Engineering was the best of all the participants in the Challenge.
Wetsus and Rabobank offered an intensive program on water and entrepreneurship.
In the weekend of October 3 and 4 Wetsus organized the Wetsus Match Making Weekend. This weekend was intended for PhD and MSc students in the field of water technology who have the ambition to set up a business, recently started entrepreneurs and MBA students who want to start a business in the field of sustainable water technology.
The Wetsus 2009 Congress welcomed approximately 700 visitors. On Monday October 5 and Tuesday October 6 they attended plenary and parallel sessions on various subjects. This year’s Marcel Mulder Award was won by Piotr Dlugolecki, for his excellent work on the development of technology for generating energy by Reversed Electro Dialysis.
Philips and Siemens had their water businesses challenged in the Wetsus Aquatech Executive Masterclass 2009. About 25 international executives participated in the 2 day class in Leeuwarden.
