Background: Water is a scarce and valuable resource in Cyprus, and urban wastewater is treated and then re-used for irrigation. The quality of the reused water is important for the soil and crops, and to ensure quality in the future, the Larnaca wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is participating in a European funded project named WATER-MINING as a case-study site. As part of this project, Wetsus is demonstrating a phosphate adsorption pilot installation at the WWTP in Larnaca, Cyprus, in collaboration with Aquacare. By removing phosphate to ultra-low levels by (reversible) adsorption, biofouling of desalination membranes and eutrophication of water-bodies can be prevented. An operator is needed on-site for the daily operation of the installation, sampling, (data) analyses, and problem solving.

Project plan: You will be responsible for the daily operation of the BioPhree pilot installation located at the Larnaca Wastewater Treatment Plant in Cyprus. Your tasks are to make sure the pilot plant is operating smoothly by monitoring the parameters and solving problems as they arise. You will be sampling influent and effluent streams and analyzing them. You will assist in planning test runs and analyzing and interpreting data

You will be supervised and assisted remotely by the project engineer Wokke Wijdeveld, who is located in the Netherlands. For this reason, daily telecommunication is important.

What is in it for you: Working in a beautiful and sunny location, you will be able to develop your engineering skills on a real-life application of an innovative technology. There are aspects of process control, mechanical-, and electrical engineering that you will learn. A compensation of 400 euro per month for living expenses will be provided. Plane tickets for relocation will be paid by Wetsus.
