Selectively removing phosphorus (P) from manure and using it as a secondary resource in phosphate related industries would be an option to decrease P levels in agricultural soils. This project focuses on a fundamental understanding to recover P from manure dosing iron (Fe). Depending on the matrix, the amount of Fe necessary to form the iron phosphate vivianite is different. Since organic matter and sulfides have been identified as possible Fe sinks, the aim is to investigate their interactions with Fe in different matrices (manure, sewage sludge, lake sediment).
Internship
You will study vivianite formation and dissolution in different conditions and matrices.
