Wetsus is proud to announce the 50th transfer of a Wetsus patent to one of our participants. Kemira and Wetsus have reached agreement on the transfer of a patent covering Pillararene-based adsorbents, invented by Han Zuilhof and colleagues from Wageningen University. Their publication can be found here: https://doi.org/10.1002/anie.202403474. We congratulate Kemira and wish them success in the further development and commercialisation of the adsorbents.
Reaching 50 patent transfers represents a significant milestone for Wetsus. To date, the Wetsus research programme has resulted in 106 patents and 177 PhD graduates, equivalent to three patents for every five PhD graduates, with an average transfer rate of 47%. The transferred patents span a wide range of innovations, including sensor devices, advanced electrochemical cell configurations for energy and resource recovery, technologies for nutrient removal and recovery, and chemical-free water purification systems. Patents are typically taken up by technology companies, mainly SMEs, but also by large industrial companies. This milestone underlines the strength of the Wetsus innovation model: generating high-quality IP that Participants want to bring to the market.
