Dutch Campuses: invest in physical innovation ecosystems

In its Growth-Letter of last December, the Dutch government states it wishes to invest in research and innovation systems. In a “Top Locations Manifest”, the ten largest campuses in the country stress that campuses and science parks function as physical innovation-ecosystems, and, as such, are a facilitator and accelerator for regional and (inter)national collaboration between knowledge institutes and businesses.

The Top Locations Manifest calls on Dutch parliament and the political powers to consider top locations as a third pillar upholding a successful innovation policy. The manifest pleas for shared facilities, easy access, business development, acquisition and a base funding for campus organizations for this purpose. Wetsus and WaterCampus Leeuwarden fully endorse this plea.
